Had a Good Night , thanks to Good Luck!

So my movie watching binge continued but suddenly sprang a surprise for me yesternight in "Good night, and Good luck". Altlast, I can safely say that the horrible weekend blues from last Saturday that seemed neverending has positively ended!

David Straithairn gave a powerful, mindblowing and incisive potrayal of 'Edward Murrow", the renowed reporter(of CBS) of the 40s& 50s, who is supposed to have pioneered modern day broadcast jounalism, especially the coverage of wars and issues affecting American civil liberties. Excellent performances from the support cast backed by a powerful screenplay secured this movie 6 oscar nominations this year. I always liked Grant Heslov as an actor, ever since "Faisil" in TrueLies but now, his screenwriting skills are starting to grab serious attention. Probably that's why he has frequently collaborated George Clooney in his production ventures.

This movie is all about Murrow taking on Mccarthy, more like Man vs Mammoth. Murrow's investigative reporting exposes Senator Joe Mccarthy's undemocratic and often victimising tactics on the supposed "communist sympathisers " that directly lead to Senate hearings which caused McCarthy's censure.

This movie, entirely B&W, may not appeal to all english audiences but is a pleasant change from all the other Oscar nominations.

Indian broadcast media can learn a thing or two about responsible jounalism from this movie.

You beat me to it :( Hamara shack had this 4 in 1 - GN & GL, Crash, BBK Mountain and Munix(?!?!). I didn't want the other three so I placed an order for GN & GL (single disc), which is due this weekend.

Duh, you already left Munix here. (2 copies of a Daniel Craig movie??? I must be out of my mind!!) And I got a combo 2 in 1 sometime back - Crash and The Constant Gardener.

Sometime I'll catch that Island - seems like my kind of a film from the plot synopsis in iMDb

P.S.

Call me "Gollum". We hates it when they don't call us that way.

P.P.S.

BBK Mountain - NO, THANK YOU. (Bilbo style)

They should be. Those are some of the best movies ever made. But i downloaded most of them. I repeat, you have to watch Fight Club and Pulp Fiction. Fight Club for Edward Norton's brilliant performance if for nothing else, i mean that guy is one of my favourite actors. I'd rate him above Johnny Depp, though that might just be blasphemy on this blog :P. And Pulp Fiction cuz of Tarantino and the star cast. Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, and the godly Samuel L. Jackson. Trust me, you won't regret it.

"I'd rate him above Johnny Depp" Yeah, blasphemy alright. BTW, my latest acquisition is "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Mr.Depp is better than the rest of the Hollywood meat because of his versatility - pirate, detective, Kind hearted Brit Writer, weirdo journo , the Earl of Rochester - you name it, Depp would have acted in it.

Edward Norton is one of the most brilliant actors in Hollywood today. Johnny Depp is brilliant, but he's been typecast into the slightly weird roles. And Edward Norton in Fight Club and 25th Hour is Godly.

Typecast in weird roles... That's an oxymoron.

P.S.

Ed Norton is a good actor. I do like him, not as much as Depp, though.
