'Look Before you Leap'
..One should think carefully about the possible results or consequences before doing something.
Why not rephrase this famous idiom to guide the unguided epicureans and gastronomists like me, somewhat like this:
" Taste before you Waste", or maybe,
" Sip before you gulp"
A total vegetarian, who freaks out on pasta & cheese and hates anything with coconut, chilli, groundnut or garlic, should find absolutely no place in "THAI BAN"(even if half the place is empty on a weekend!)
Lessons learned:
1.Thai food is not for everyone.
2.Cocunut milk , garlic & crushed groundnut form the paste or gravy for almost all the thai recipes.
3. For something that looks like a liquefied version of our own desi "aviyal" you dont have to call it "Kaeng phak", pay through the nose and still end up hungry (and finally attain satiety within the 4 walls of your home, from the delicious food made by your own Thai (mother)!)
4.Thai food is not for everyone.
One bite and forever bitter!
P.S:
"Chan Hew" in Thai means " Im Hungry"

Why epithets like epicureans etc.,
call straight away "glutton".
You gluttons are Thai ban, i.e you ban all tasty foods prepared by your Thai (mother) in preference to stale avial mixed with any junk itms and called "Kaeng phak". At any rate, thank you, glutton, for late realisation. You are guinea pig for eateries like Thai Ban. You have become "prodigal son" only after visiting and wasting money in Thai Bans.
vegetarian and hates food with coconuts, chillies, groundnuts and garlic - that must narrow down the stuff you can eat quite a bit. :-)
" Italian" veg feast excludes all these..try it sometimes and then use this space.
I will make up for it..

Frankie: Tell me who this Anon is. I'm like holding my tummy laughing hard. (Sorry :D ) Gawd, I was never even gonna go oriental - steaming things and eating them with two sticks, that's not my idea of grub. And my taste buds suffice with the likes of Indian food we get locally. Thank you.
Gollum: I know you like to feast on Indian food and Gandy's repartees alike. Gandy aint gonna spare me ever and I'd better lie low.
If your comment referred to the one I'd made, then my retort is that I have tried Italian veg. cuisine innumerable times and it is one of my favourites. Also a lot of Italian delicacies (veg. as well as non-veg.) make use of garlic.
agree with your comment.. Thai food is not for everyone..
So is Japanese
I like both..
