What 'ism" is this?

We want to liberalise Indian economy ...and globalise it, when we can't liberate the Indian psychology from this age old "ism" that has dogged our society for centuries and even governs our polity. What else should we call this threat of reservationism that portends nothing but doom to our quest for scientific & technological wizardry in the new world??

Why are medical students and resident doctors striking for days? Why should they bother when they have already got their seats? Why is every IITian joining hands with these protestors who call themself "Youth for equality"? It is because they care for the future of the country which they are going to represent in thier professional capacity.

Youth for Equality is an initiative by Medical and other professional students in India who feel strongly against populist measures which can be wrong, unjust and harmful for India's future.

Their plea for "implementing Universal Free education" and "concession/quota for the economically backward" have fallen on deaf ears of the politicians. Not surprising that most of the Medical/Engg/MBA colleges are run by politicians!

If the government wishes to allocate quotas based on one's caste certificate in speciality disciplines such as medicine and other advances sciences, will such a fact be in mentioned prominentlyin the degree certificate ? For , the prospective user of such services might demand a "right to information" and further the usage of caste in certificate!, which cannot be ruled out or ruled as wrong!!

Populist measures are always welcome, insofaras they don't harm the cultural ethos. Caste based reservation without addressing issues like child labour, free education upto highshool, malnutrition, is an utter FARCE and EYEWASH.

Even as the Hon Supreme Court ordered these protesters today to call off the strike or face contempt charges, the movement only seems to have gathered further momentum. These are testing times for the Indian youth. Every concerned citizen of this country should come forward and voice thier opinion for "Equality through education" and against "Lack of quality through reservation" .

"VC less Universities" I like that bit. ;)

I wonder whether people know for a fact that reservation in TN is 69%, a whopping difference as opposed to 49.5% that's been proposed in other states.

In TN the youth comunity in general and minority (read open) category is not vocal enough in these matters of national interest. They concentrate more on getting VCs substituted for liberal dress codes.

Liberalisation and Globalisation: It was not initiated by any political party, but by the then Finance Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh. Then he had capacity and guts, and was fully supported by the then Prime Minister,Mr.Narasimharao whose congress was not also having majority. The same Mr.Clean Singh is now Prime Minister. I dont know how he manages to continue in the post without implementing anything close to his heart. He seldom gets a fraction of the support he got from MrRao.

In the same way, the much required socio-economic policies in general, basic needs of the people in particular like water, roads, education, employment etc are mortgaged by the politicians prefering freebies for vote bank.
Socially and/or economically backward people, whatever nomenclature you use to name them, should be provided with concessional/free education and other facilities by the state so that afterwards they could stand on their own legs and compete with others. We find no political party is serious in actually uplifting them but compete each other on the platform of vote-bank politics/ temporary freebies. This is one of the ills of democacy and such un-rests would continue/flare up in one way or other until responsible political parties sit down and draw a policy suitable in the best interest of the affected people/ country. Will they?

let the force be with and God give us the power and courage to fight this battle till the end. We cannot afford to lose this battle as this is the most important battle in the life of our times and history should not accuse of being cowards. It's time to show courage to stick to the cause. We need to motivate, encourage and persuade ourselves to the cause of equality and try to campaign actively, everyday, every night and every breath for this cause. Withdrawal of the strike by doctors does not mean anything to the campaign. The campaign will continue till equality is restored in the society. We need to keep the campaign alive and need to ensure that this fight continues for weeks and months till the government and Supreme Court make a case in our favor and abolish all forms of reservation. The fight has to be persistent and continuous and non-violent and there must be no let down and it must gather momentum every day and fall on the government like a huge juggernauting snowball. In a soceity where there is abundance creating quota does not adversely effect the legitmate receivers of benefit. In our country with its meager resources providing quota means harming the legitmate meritorious students. principles and ideals which were on the forefront during independence times have taken back seat with the current parliamentarians. The current breed of parliamentarians work for benefit of themselves and their community. They are unconcerned about their acts adversely effecting huge sections of population. They reinforce their arguments with seemingly irrational arguments. The current media quality has deteriorated to such low standards that emotional and irrational logic are made to sound seeming and reasonable. The need is to continue the agitation till the equality is resotred in democracy. Everyone must do their part in spreading the word and strenghtening the campaign.
