Say No To Pirates..Review of POTC-II

Horrible, Boring and a Total Waste of 150 minutes of your Life..

Gore Verbinsky should know that not every sequel can meet up to the expectations and standards set by the predecessor. Take Lord of the Rings Trilogy for e.g, or even the banal Terminator series.

Totally counting on digital effects and effaced images of *creatures* from the depths of the ocean, the sequel does not stir anything that could even distantly qualify as amazement. The special attratcion this time around was supposed to be Bill Nighy( Love Actually) playing the damned & tentacled "Captain Davy Jones" . But one felt quite shocked and almost cheated to see some Computer generated Octopus stuck on his face.

Millions of dollars wasted on a missed opportunity.

This movie could get labelled a success only on account of lack of competition or loyal followers of Mr Sparrow's antics.

Say No To PIRATES! Save your Life!

Ther were too many side shows ( Tia, Pintel Ragetti..)who stole the *show* from sparrow..The island/sea sequences looked like potpourri of scenes king-kong(recent)+perfect storm+ POTC-1..Horrible.

Why am I not surprised?

Haven't seen it. Yet to release in Chennai. But I seriously feel you should know that you could do with a bit of imagination.

Oh and Arag could do with a bit of imagination too.

You'll need much more than a *bit* of imagination to get thru this procrastinating torture..

Sequels are usually never as good as the first movie.. Except for Grease.. Where I liked Grease 2 better than Grease 1

Grease 2 was nice.. mushy romance.. my type.. and did not have John Travolta (thank God)
I like soft romantic movies..
Like Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got mail (yes I like Meg Ryan)
...Parent Trap (not really romantic but nice)

I know that, but I thought I shouldn't be too hard on you!

Now that I have seen this movie, I am properly qualified. Prepare for comeuppance.

(1)"Horrible, Boring and a Total Waste of 150 minutes of your Life.."

So is watching football, or watching Tarantino films, which by the way are humourless, story-less, everything else-less.

(2)"Gore Verbinsky should know that not every sequel can meet up to the expectations and standards set by the predecessor. Take Lord of the Rings Trilogy for e.g, or even the banal Terminator series."

LOTR is a bad case point. Two Towers book ended perfectly. Making way for the Return of the King. But in the LoTR films, they altered it to avoid "too many endings" and hence TTT was badly mutilated. It shouldn't have ended that way.

Dead Man's Chest ends perfectly well, making you wonder how *that* happened. (The last scene, in Tia Dalma's house, I mean)

(3) "Totally counting on digital effects and effaced images of *creatures* from the depths of the ocean, the sequel does not stir anything that could even distantly qualify as amazement."

Kraken was incredibly realistic and mythologically accurate.

(4)"But one felt quite shocked and almost cheated to see some Computer generated Octopus stuck on his face."

With all due respects to LoTR, are you or are you not aware of "computer generated" things running around through out the trilogy? Oh, wait! You wouldn't have seen Two Towers and Return of the King anyway.

(5) "Millions of dollars wasted on a missed opportunity."

You can't make that comment unless you watch the third part as well.

(6) "This movie could get labelled a success only on account of lack of competition or loyal followers of Mr Sparrow's antics."

It is a success because it is well in keeping with the first part, and it's unusual and refreshingly new approach.

(7) "Say No To PIRATES! Save your Life!"

Your loss. *shrug*

"It is a success because"
'Beauty is in the eye of beholder"
as also,
"Success is ONLY in the mind of the director"
and
Die hard fans who would watch the movie n times..

"You can't make that comment unless you watch the third part as well"
-Haven't I endured enough?
Going by the lukewarm response II generated, Im sure verbinsky would wanna postpone the release of III like in 2010.
