Looks like the G world from the world of Music is near extinction. The only word to describe the current genre of music that plays on the local Indian music channels ( call them International, if you dare) is JUNK.
Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden...have all become "classics" just like their frontmen. Some groups have disbanded for greener pastures and some for lack of material.
As an ardent grunge lover my only question is can Grunge ever die?? SOS

What about those wannabe-s who spoil Nirvana's renditions.. Like Tori Amos messing up Nirvana's most famus track..?

You're so right.... when did grunge become classic?? If kurt hadn't been cremated, he would be turning in his grave.... although, grunge is still pretty popular among the very small minority of people who can actually understand music... but there's nothing worse to see someone list eminem, linkin park and Avril Lavigne against class acts like Nirvana, Soundgarden, AIC or Mudhoney.... everyone gaga over bands like 3 Doors Down or Nickelback or Godsmack don't even realise that they're noting better than cheap grunge ripoffs... Hell, godsmack even went so far as to steal their name from an AIC song.... i had a fight with this guy telling me that Limp Bizkit was heavier than Nirvana and Linkin Park were great musicians.... Although, if you actually think about it, grunge was never meant to be popular, and it's popularity did kill it, so maybe it's better this way.... grunge rock was always elitist.... bah, i'm just raving but it's great to meet another grunge fan instead of dumbasses who claim to like Nirvana and yet haven't even heard School....
I couldn't agree more, both with you and Bhanuj (Negative Creep). It's nice to know about a Nirvana fan like you.
Anonymus : I cant stop Tori amos from singing SLTS but I can defintely stop listening to that crap..
Negative Creep: Most of Todays top acts ( LB specially) manage to stay in limelight not because of their music...but because of drunk-driving, brawls with fans, excessive cursing, celebrity link-ups besides drug abuse. You cant find solace from their songs...only NOISE..One famous music mag had referred to Kurt's voice was "Melodic & chaotic" ..thats a combo NO ONE can ever achieve...
"If you want soemthing done right..." ;)
Because there is so much music out there, claiming to be this that and the other - it gives everyone and anyone a license to say they know what music (in this case grunge)is all about. T
he truth is, unless you were born in the 70s and either witnessed or have links to the rise of music, then you are just using reflections and echoes of it as a
basis for knowledge.
Albiet music has progressed (rather impressively I might add) to a state of near oblivion, it's increasingly harder to create or find anything original out there... we will always crave more and look back with a fond eye on the "comings and goings" of legends such as Kurt or Mark Arm and how they make other "lesser" bands seem unimportant.
The thing to remember is that everything plays its part and I guess what im trying to say is that without ppl like Tori singing Kurts songs, less people would actually know or appreciate it. So thanks to ppl like Tori - Kurt seems like a saint, even next to a living legend like his former drummer ;D
Listen To:
, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains, Group Dog Drill, Catherine Wheele, [the band] Live (early stuff)... and finally Pearl Jam; to really understand what grunge is and where it's gone.
P.s. I love music, so dont fuck it up for me by not being true to yourself.
Shake em on Down' KF
